Cumbernauld’s Raw Taekwondo recently took part in the WT Autumn English Open on the weekend of November 10th 2018, with a team of 20 strong competitors ranging in age from six to fifteen years.
The team walked away with an excellent medal haul, with a total of four golds, six silvers and seven bronze in sparring and two silvers and one bronze in poomsae. Special mention to Sophia Shields who walked away with a silver in Poomsae and two silvers in sparring as well as Kieran Dunsmore who was awarded the Outstanding Performance trophy for a superb fight against a strong competitor.
The club also earned two trophies, one for Overall Participation and 5th place for our fantastic young Poomsae team. We look forward to organising our competition calendar for 2019. And predict a bright and busy future for our young team.
This was off the back of a fantastic event in the busy Wonderful Copenhagen Taekwondo Tournamentin August where a team of 6 players entered the tournament and came away with 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals. With Lauren Dunsmore narrowly losing out in the final seconds to a high level opponent earning her a silver medal. It was also a silver medal for Mark Armour in the -80’s kg, and a bronze for Kieran Dunsmore and Lucy Millar. The team also earned the Fair player award for good sportsmanship.
